The Ford Barra 4.0L is an incredible engine, but its long stroke creates severe harmonic vibrations at high RPM. These harmonics are destructive. We frequently see engines with loose flexplates, sheared flywheel bolts, and damaged oil pumps and timing components—even on builds with dowelled cranks. The factory balancer (and all aftermarket replacements except ATI) simply cannot absorb these torsional spikes beyond 700whp.
Harmonics loosen bolts. We have seen engines where the flexplate repeatedly came loose, despite being dowelled and nordlock washers + Loctited. As soon as an ATI Super Damper was installed, the problem vanished instantly. That is the difference proper harmonic damping makes.
We believe the ATI Super Damper is the single most important upgrade for any high-power Barra. By absorbing torsional twist directly at the crank snout, it protects your entire engine—from the oil pump gears to the timing chain guides. We've seen engines run smoother, idle quieter, and stop breaking parts immediately after installation. No other brand is adequate for serious builds.
An ATI damper is only as good as the hub it sits on. We don't use generic adapters.
