An adjustable gate pressure feature on all the Turbosmart e-boost controllers improves turbo responsiveness by up to 1000rpm early in the rev range. This improves engine responsiveness and performance without raising the maximum boost level.

How Do They Work and What Do They Do for Engine Performance

Turbosmart e-boost controllers work by adjusting the wastegate, a valve in a turbocharger that regulates the flow of exhaust gases to the turbine wheel via a solenoid. The wastegate controls the amount of boost pressure generated, which also controls the turbine wheel's speed. The pressure acting on the wastegate actuator in a manual boost controller can be changed by opening or closing the valve, which controls the airflow to the wastegate. Higher or lower boost levels are achieved by varying this pressure, which controls the wastegate's opening position and the volume of exhaust gases routed around the turbine wheel.

The pressure of the wastegate actuator is controlled by sensors and a solenoid valve in electronic boost controllers. To calculate the appropriate boost level, the controller monitors several engine factors, including manifold pressure, RPM, and throttle position. The controller modifies the solenoid valve's duty cycle in response to these inputs, changing the pressure exerted on the wastegate actuator.
