The Way Of The Future: Toyota's New Engines

With the success of both the GR Yaris & Corolla, Toyota has relooked at the future and have revealed a new line up of engines for their vehicles and rumor has it that one could be the new MR2's heart.

Toyota confirmed the development of all new 1.5L N/A and Turbocharged engines as well as a 2.0L Turbocharged engines back in May 2024 working closely with both Subaru and Mazda. From the early reports, these engines will be powerful, efficient & could be ready to be used in line with Hybrid technology as well as other alternate fuels such as Hydrogen.

1.5L 4 Cylinder N/A Quick Details: 

  • Will replace the 1.5L 3 cylinder
  • 10% Smaller in height
  • 10% Smaller in volume
  • up to 12% better fuel economy in sedan class vehicles

1.5L 4 Cylinder Turbocharged Quick Details:

  • Will replace the 2.5L N/A
  • 20% Smaller in volume
  • 15% Smaller in height

2.0L 4 Cylinder Turbocharged Quick Details:

  • Will replace the 2.4L Turbocharged
  • 10% Smaller in height
  • 10% Smaller in volume
  • rumored to be the MR2 engine

This new engine has had rumors to suggest that the 2.0L Turbocharged engine could produce near 600hp in its race spec. Even if this figure is remotely close, this will be another respectable engine coming out of Toyota and will have high expectations after the very successful G16E found in the Toyota GR Yaris and GR Corolla.
